R.D.Gardi Medical College is extensively involved in various fundamental and applied medical researches pertaining to clinical, para-clinical and socio-medical areas with a high international academic profile. In due-course of just 10 years RDGMC has earned a distinguished reputation both in India and internationally for its excellent and result driven collaboration in research and medical services in the rural areas of Ujjain district. Public health research is the main focus of research activities at RDGMC, which is achieved through its active involvement both in fundamental and applied research. The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India recognize R.D. Gardi Medical College as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO).

We have developed a sound research collaboration with number of International and National Institutions. International Centre for Health Research (ICHR) - RDGMC is involved actively in research and training program in collaboration with various international universities and institutions. Academic exchanges for PhDs, Masters and Post Doctoral studies are regular features of our institute. Research funding opportunities are increased so as the competition to get these funds. Therefore, for better coordination and effective management for carrying out Basic and Applied Medical Research, a separate Research centre was established in 2010-11 as  “The International Centre for Health Research”. The International Centre for Health Research (ICHR) envisaged  to strengthen the research at RDGMC through collaboration with international scientists and institutions. Centre carry out researches with practical implications at international horizon.

ICHR tasked to coordinate and support multi- and trans-disciplinary research activities through various departments, and to initiate new projects and activities addressing public health and basic sciences challenges. ICHR conducts training programme in research methodology and skill development courses. It also helps college researchers in budgeting and reporting formats, preparing and publishing manuscript in national and international journals.

Expertise exists in conducting large-scale field surveys, evaluation & performance studies. The main areas of focus are chronic infectious diseases, antibiotic resistance studies, malaria, infections, prescription and drug monitoring, molecular diagnostics, disease surveillance, maternal and child health, use of information technology and online learning.

Central Research Laboratory:

R.D. Gardi Medical College, Ujjain has a in-house Central Research Laboratory (CRL), which is dedicated to conduct cutting edge clinical and public health research. CRL undertakes all activities involved in research- from building concept till ensuring the study results published in international peer reviewed journals. We have dedicated facilities with over 5,000+ square-feet of laboratories, logistics and office space. Our staff of over 50 associates works round the clock to process in laboratory and community field all the days a week. CRL combines a highly skilled technical staff with both state-of- the-art equipment and facilities of the highest quality combined with timely scheduling, comprehensive innovative customized service. CRL’s vision is to provide health care services to under privileged lives through scientific contributions. CRL’s mission is to strengthen innovative operational research at RDGMC at international horizon. CRL is also involved in validation and performance of new custom research assays that are not available from established clinical laboratories, customized specimen handling and bio-repository, specimen tracking and archiving of specimens, professional consultation on test methods, specimen handling and storage. We are also monitoring antibiotic use and its resistance patterns in the hospital and concentration and resistance of different antibiotics in hospital drainage and wastewater. Moreover, to produce evidences we are using molecular analysis to confirm our finding for diagnosis of extra-pulmonary tuberculosis, to analyze biological markers in the genome and proteome including infectious disease, oncology, and pharmacogenomics.
